How long will it take to heal?
Is there an expiration date
on the pain for this particular loss?
Things always just take the time they take.
Although it is spring
and the snow has melted
this single dignified icicle holds
onto the great white oak
with all its might
gleaming and sharp as a lion’s tooth
hanging in the shadows of tree branches
carries the magic of winter
wonders of glinting raw
sharp unapologetic grief
A steady drip from the thaw
the melting
the letting go
a slow tender weeping
Love doesn’t die
it transforms
icicle becomes water
evaporates to vapor
drawn up to the sky
an offering
a prayer
of floating white clouds
in a sea of blue above
the eventual rain
a generous
heaving release
from the great mystery
that holds us all
